The bell
rang.
A simulated request for help was sent from the trail. The message reached the base and the bell rang. That day’s assessment also raised questions about seeing a case, attending to it and communicating who was taking responsibility. [1]

01 / The underlying question
Three things.
Not the same thing.
A received message does not prove that someone was able to respond. A record, on its own, does not explain everything that happened. That is where the work begins.
01A message gets through.
Communicating without depending on the internet. The demonstration established a link under the conditions of that particular day, not the coverage or reliability of a complete network.
02We can establish what happened.
Keeping a record that can be inspected, without claiming more than it establishes. A later inspection found the node’s clock unreliable: the order of entries is not the same as knowing when events occurred.
03People can decide.
The authority to use, care for, change or stop infrastructure should not disappear inside it. The programme places that authority with people and the community’s own legitimate decision-making procedures.
